Interview 3
For my third interview I interviewed my mentor, Deborah Nakielski. I asked her questions that would help me answer my essential question. Her answers were very thorough and detailed which benefitted me a lot. One of my questions to her was "which do you think is the best prenatal diagnostic?" This question stood out to me a lot because its the one she was most thorough with. She went into detail about what each was, how they worked, their benefits, their drawbacks, and when they were presented to the medical field. I enjoyed interviewing her because she gave me her full and undivided attention and wasn't in a rush to get it over with. I had previously interviewed her for my second interview and she was just as thorough and provided in depth information about her background and midwifery's background. Whenever I interview her she shows me more and goes more in depth by doing something that involved the topic during mentorship. She shows me first hand and provides me with more insight to fully understand what she was talking about. She is very helpful and patient and is the ideal person to interview.

Independent Component 2 Approval
1. For my independent component 2 I will be taking a series of childbirth classes to fulfill the 30 hour requirement such as lamaze, bradley, hypnobirthing, prenatal yoga, etc.
2. I will provide evidence for what I do by taking videos, photos, and if possible by brining in props.
3. Attending these classe will help me explore my topic more in depth because often times midwives are the ones who teach these types of classes. They will give me more of an insight on what full scope midwives do inside and outside of the hospital. Attending these classes will also help me better understand the different tasks midwives have such as counseling.

Independent Component 1
(a) I, Ariami, affirm that I completed my independent component which represents 34 hours of work.
(b) Jennice Burris (909)342-0827
Amanda Woolery (909)609-7558
Deborah Nakielski (626)485-9344
(c) Updated
(d) For my first independent component I took two birthing classes. I took a prepared childbirth class which focused on what to expect during pregnancy and during the labor. I also took a Bradley class which focused more on natural birth, nutrition, exercise, and coaching. The Bradley class was more detailed and provided more in depth information because it had more sessions than the prepared childbirth course.
Applied: Taking these classes for my independent component further helped me understand the pregnancy aspect of midwifery because I was able to work closely with expectant mothers. I was able to see the sort of things midwife's advice their patients to do such as take childbirth classes to educate and prepare themselves for labor. These classes also helped me learn more in depth about pregnancy in an emotional, physical, and physiological way. These classes helped me work on my answer for my essential question as well because I learned more about the knowledge a midwife needs to possess in order to help their patients.
