Lesson 2

The month of January is coming to an end and along with that came our second lessons. This time around I was very proud of my quality of work. I was really happy and proud of all the research I gathered for my answer. I think that I was very thorough and detailed and did a great job presenting. I went into depth about my answer and then broke it up into tiny parts and explained it further. For this lesson I was definitely more calm which helped me greatly because during my first lesson I was really nervous and that affected me greatly. It was really noticeable that I was nervous which made me speak very very fast and in the end ended up affecting my grade. Despite all this I still got an AP+ because I was 45 seconds short of the 20 minute minimum. I didn't really take enough time to debrief so that affected me. Even though I didn't get the grade I desired, I'm still very proud of my work. The second lesson served to teach me what to do and what not to do on my final presentation. (:

Lesson 2 Reflection

1. What I am most proud of in my Lesson 2 was my ability to stay calm and speak calmly to deliver a great presentation. During my Lesson 1 thats something I struggled with greatly and I know it took away from me because I was highly nervous and it was noticeable. I think that this time around I did great and spoke well and delivered all my information nicely.
2. a) I'd give myself an AE
    b) I believe I deserve and AE because as I mentioned before I stayed calm and presented very confidently. I was able to present without stuttering or having a trembly voice. I knew all my information from the top of my head and didn't rely on my powerpoint nor did I read off it directly. I also incorporated and referred back to my sources as I did my 10 mins of content rather then just listing them at the end which I feel not many people did. I also felt that my powerpoint was a good length because it didn't have too much information but it had the right amount to give people an idea. With all that being said, I maintain that I deserve an AE because I was very informative and I was able to answer my essential question and clearly provide evidence to back it up.
3. What worked well during my lesson was my activity. People seemed to be really into it and I was able to describe more about my answer as I had volunteers demonstrate the exercises.
4. What didn't work was that I didn't have many photos in my powerpoint and people critiqued me on it. I strayed away from photos because some of them can be very graphic due to my topic and thats why I focused solely on the information that I was putting on the slides. If i had a time machine I would definitely go back and try to find some pictures that would have been appropriate to enhance my powerpoint presentation.
5. I think my answer #2 is going to be, "In order for a a midwife to be able to serve her patients she needs to be knowledgeable and an expert in women's primary and gynecological care."

Mentorship 10 Hours Check

1. I am doing my mentorship at Kaiser Permanente and working closely with my mentor at her home.
2. My contact is Deborah Nakielski who is a CNM at Kaiser.
3. I have 23 hours of mentorship in total without including the 10 hours I did over the summer.
4. For my service hours I was able to attend presentations relating to the job of a midwife, I was able to make visits to Kaiser to observe midwives in action, and I worked closely with my mentor in her home learning about the different jobs, characteristics, attributes, etc that a midwife needs/ does.

Holiday Project Update

1. Over the break I went to mentorship and worked on more hours for my senior project. I also worked on some assignments my mentor assigned me because tomorrow afternoon I'm starting a Bradley Method class.
2. The most important thing I learned from what I did was the difference between Lamaze method and the Bradley method. I researched both methods because I have already taken a Lamaze class and my mentor wanted me to find out the difference between both methods before I started my new birthing class.
3. I would talk to Deborah Nakielski, who is a midwife because I feel that she would be able to show me and discuss what attributes a midwife needs in order to serve all her patients. I also interviewed Mrs. Nakielski in the past and I really liked her responses and help so I feel that I would benefit from interviewing her again.
